Chengdu Ductile Iron Manhole Cover Introduction:

Ductile iron is a high-strength cast iron material developed in the 1950s. Its overall performance is close to that of steel. Precisely because of its excellent properties, it has been successfully used to cast parts that bear complex loads and require high strength, toughness and wear resistance. Ductile iron has rapidly developed into an extremely widely used cast iron material second only to gray cast iron. The so-called "replacing steel with iron" mainly refers to ductile iron.

Ductile iron manhole covers are generally divided into round and square types. For municipal road use in urban areas, round covers are generally adopted because round covers are not easy to tilt and can better protect the safety of pedestrians and vehicles. The round shape is mainly used because every diameter of a round cover passing through its center has the same length, so if a cover is flipped up by a passing vehicle, no matter how it is flipped, its diameter will be slightly wider than the well opening below, so the cover will not fall into the opening.

If a square cover is used, since the diagonal of a square is clearly longer than each of its sides, such a cover, when flipped up, can easily fall into the well along the diagonal direction of the opening, creating a safety hazard. If the opening is made round or clearly smaller than the cover, a square cover will not fall into the well. This involves the efficient use and saving of material. The use of the opening depends on its size. If a square cover with an area far larger than the opening must be installed, the utilization and practical value of the material would naturally be less effective than directly using a round cover, which both saves cover material and ensures the safety of the opening.

In rural areas and for cable wells, square covers are generally used, as they better prevent the ingress of liquids such as rainwater.
